Sender Authentication (Domain Authentication)

Written by Rafael Felsemburg

Authenticate your domain with ViralSweep to send emails as a verified sender.

This helps:

  • Improve email deliverability

  • Reduce the chance of emails going to spam

  • Prevent email bounces

Before you begin

You must own the domain you want to authenticate.

❌ Email providers like Gmail, Yahoo, or Hotmail cannot be used
✅ Use an email address from your own domain (e.g., [email protected])

How to authenticate your domain

This feature is set up per campaign, so you can authenticate different domains for different promotions.

Step 1: Go to Sender Authentication

Navigate to:
Edit → Advanced → Sender Authentication

Step 2: Enter your sending email

Input the email address you want to send from, then click Authenticate Domain.

Step 3: Add DNS records

You’ll be given several DNS records (usually CNAME records).

  • Log in to your DNS provider (e.g., GoDaddy, Amazon Route 53, Namecheap)

  • Add the records exactly as provided

Step 4: Verify your domain

After adding the records, return to ViralSweep and click Verify Domain.

DNS changes can take some time to propagate, so verification may not be instant.

Common DNS setup issue (Important)

Some DNS providers automatically append your root domain to the Host/Name field.

This can cause duplicate entries and lead to failed verification.

Example

If ViralSweep provides:

  • em123.yourdomain.com

You should enter:

  • Host/Name: em123 (not the full domain)

Correct CNAME formatting

Provided Host/Name

What to enter in DNS

em123.yourdomain.com

em123

s1._domainkey.yourdomain.com

s1._domainkey

s2._domainkey.yourdomain.com

s2._domainkey

Note:
You do not need to modify the Value / Points To field.

Troubleshooting

Domain won’t verify

  • Double-check that all DNS records were entered correctly

  • Make sure your DNS provider isn’t reformatting the Host/Name field

  • Review the example above for common formatting issues

  • Wait a bit—DNS changes can take time to update

Need to access your DNS records again?

DNS records are typically only shown during the initial setup.

If you need them again, you may need to:

  • Reset the authentication

  • Reconfigure the domain
