Custom Captions (Gallery)

Written by Aldin Rey
Updated today

The Custom Captions feature lets you display information from your entry form (such as name, location, or custom responses) in the contest gallery caption area.

Before you begin

This feature must be set up before launching your contest.

If it’s not configured in advance, caption data may not display correctly for existing entries.

👉 We recommend reaching out via live chat so we can review your setup before launch.

Setup

To enable custom captions:

Go to:
Edit → Gallery → Custom Captions

In this field, you’ll define which form data should appear in each gallery caption.

How to use custom captions

To display form data, insert field parameters into the caption box.

Pre-made fields

You can use the following built-in parameters:

[CONTEST_CAPTION]
[ADDRESS]
[ADDRESS2]
[CITY]
[STATE]
[ZIP]
[COUNTRY]
[BIRTHDAY_MONTH]
[BIRTHDAY_DAY]
[BIRTHDAY_YEAR]

Custom fields

To use custom form fields:

  1. Add the field to your entry form

  2. Open your form in a browser

  3. Use the Inspect tool to find the field’s ID

  4. Insert it using this format:

[FIELD_ID]

Example:

[58502_1525258393]

If you’re unsure how to find the field ID, contact support—we’re happy to help.

Troubleshooting

My captions aren’t showing

Check the following:

  • Parameters are typed correctly (including brackets)

  • The referenced fields exist on your entry form

I updated captions after launch, but nothing changed

Custom caption updates only apply to new submissions.

Existing entries will not be updated retroactively.
