Duplicating a promotion is a great way to reuse a previous setup without starting from scratch. However, duplicating copies everything from the original — including dates, tracking links, and integrations — so there are a few things you must update before going live.

How to duplicate a promotion

  1. Go to your ViralSweep dashboard

  2. Find the promotion you want to duplicate

  3. Click the three-dot menu (⋯) next to the promotion

  4. Select Duplicate

A copy of the promotion will be created with the same title prefixed by "Copy of". It will be in Draft status by default.

What gets copied over

Everything from the original promotion is duplicated, including:

  • Promotion title and description

  • Start and end dates (including timezone)

  • Entry form fields and design

  • Social actions and bonus entry settings

  • Tracking links (these still reference the original promotion's ID)

  • Email integration settings

  • Spam filter settings

  • Widget embed code reference

Entries are not copied — the duplicated promotion starts with zero entrants.

What you must update before going live

1. Start and end dates

The duplicated promotion will have the same dates as the original, which are likely in the past. Update these first or your promotion won't go live.

Go to Edit → Settings → Duration and set new start and end dates.

Also double-check the timezone — if the original promotion used a different seasonal offset (e.g. EST vs EDT due to daylight saving), update it to match the correct current offset.

2. Tracking links

This is the most commonly missed step. When you duplicate a promotion, any tracking links you created on the original promotion still point to the original promotion's ID — not the new one.

If you share those old tracking links, entries will be attributed to the old (ended) promotion instead of the new one.

To fix this:

  1. Open the duplicated promotion

  2. Go to Tracking → Tracking Links

  3. Recreate your tracking links here — they will now use the new promotion's ID

  4. Replace any old links in your emails, ads, or social posts with the new ones

3. Direct link

The direct link for your new promotion is different from the original. Get the updated link from Install → Direct Link and use that for sharing.

4. Email integrations

Integration settings are copied over, but check that the correct list or audience is still selected — especially if you use separate lists per campaign.

Go to Integrations → Email & SMS to review and update as needed.

5. Promotion title

The duplicate will be named "Copy of [original title]". Update this to the correct name for your new promotion under Edit → Settings → Title.

Pre-launch checklist

Before publishing your duplicated promotion, run through this list:

  • ☐ Start and end dates are updated to the correct new dates

  • ☐ Timezone is correct for the current season (DST)

  • ☐ Tracking links have been recreated in the new promotion

  • ☐ All shared links (emails, ads, social) have been updated to the new direct link

  • ☐ Email integration is pointing to the correct list

  • ☐ Promotion title has been updated

  • ☐ Promotion status is set to Published
